Pre-Surgical Psychological Assessment
Before certain surgeries—like bariatric procedures, spinal cord stimulators, or chronic pain treatments—a pre-surgical psychological assessment is often required. This isn’t a test you can “pass” or “fail.” Instead, it helps ensure you’re emotionally and psychologically prepared for surgery, fully understand what the recovery process involves, and have the appropriate coping strategies and support systems in place. These evaluations also allow your medical team to identify any factors that could impact your recovery and to address them proactively. The goal is to promote the best possible outcome by helping you enter surgery with confidence, realistic expectations, and a clear understanding of the lifestyle or behavioral changes that may be needed afterward.
